Eligibility Criteria for CDS Exam:

 

Introduction:

The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) is organizing the Combined Defence Services (CDS) Examination to recruit candidates for various positions in the Indian Military Academy, Indian Naval Academy, Air Force Academy, and Officers Training Academy. Here are the simplified eligibility details to guide you through the application process.

1. Nationality:

  • The candidate must be unmarried and a citizen of India, or
  • A subject of Nepal, or
  • A person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, or East African countries with the intention of permanently settling in India.

Note: Candidates from Nepal (Gorkha subjects) do not require a certificate of eligibility. Others need this certificate, which should be issued by the Government of India before the UPSC result declaration.

2. Age Limit:

  • For IMA and Indian Naval Academy: Unmarried male candidates born between January 2, 2001, and January 1, 2006.
  • For Air Force Academy: 20 to 24 years as of January 1, 2025 (born between January 2, 2001, and January 1, 2005). The upper age limit is relaxable to 26 years for candidates with a valid Commercial Pilot License.
  • For Officers’ Training Academy (Men): Unmarried male candidates born between January 2, 2000, and January 1, 2006.
  • For Officers Training Academy (Women): Unmarried women, widows, and issueless divorcees born between January 2, 2000, and January 1, 2006.

Note: Candidates below 25 years must be unmarried. Married candidates above 25 can apply but won’t receive married accommodation during training.

3. Educational Qualification:

  • For I.M.A. and Officers’ Training Academy: Degree from a recognized University or equivalent.
  • For Indian Naval Academy: Degree in Engineering from a recognized university/institution.
  • For Air Force Academy: Degree from a recognized University (with Physics and Mathematics at 10+2 level) or Bachelor of Engineering.

Note: Final year degree students awaiting results can also apply.

Physical Standards: Candidates must meet prescribed physical standards for admission to the Combined Defence Services Examination (I), 2024.
